Lolo Oyong Pension House Review: Respite in El Nido

By Wanderingjoshua
I had plans on returning to El Nido before the year ended. I wanted to return to my favorite island in the Philippines (Palawan) and explore it even more. As soon as the plane landed in Puerto Prinsesa, I rode the van heading to El Nido.

Respite in El Nido
After a tiring day of island hopping or relaxing on Nacpan Beach, I would like to return to a room that is relaxing and comfortable.
My Room

The room I got was the single bedroom. The room is just at the right size for one occupant. The bed was comfortable, ideal for a good night's sleep. The room was furnished with air con and an electric fan. Thankfully, wi-fi reached my room, a definite plus!

The private bath had hot and cold water. The bathroom was clean and well-maintained.

Each room had hangers and a stand for wet clothes, not really necessary but thoughtful because as a guest I would not want to hang my wet clothes inside the room and get everything else wet.
Verdict: 4/5
Common Areas

The vibe I got from Lolo Oyong was that it was like a second home. It was unlike many of the hostels or pension houses I've stayed in before.

Lolo Oyong is roomier and homier compared to other pension houses and hostels I've stayed in.

There were also a few bookshelves where guests can grab a book if they are tired of island hopping or just want to do something else other than lay around on the beach.

Overall, I liked how spacious and comfortable the common areas are in Lolo Oyong. What it lacks in ambiance it makes up for with that 'homey-feeling-at-your-grandparents' kind of feeling.
Verdict: 5/5
Breakfast

Lolo Oyong Pension House Review: Respite in El Nido
I've stayed in a few hotels, hostels, and guesthouses that offered free breakfast with the room, but in most cases the food offered was nothing more than two slices of bread (toast), some sandwich spreads, and coffee or juice. But in Lolo Oyong the breakfast was complete, oh yeah! For a budget traveler like me, I love getting good value for the money I spent. Guests can choose a Filipino or continental breakfast that comes with fruits, juice, water, and some local pandesal or other kind of bread. In some of the places I've stayed in, the breakfast wasn't the same and as complete for the same price or for a higher priced room.
Verdict: 5/5
Pricing
Rooms in Lolo Oyong range from P1500 for a single room to P2000 for a double junior room. All their rooms have a maximum of 2 occupants, but guests can pay an extra P350for an extra person (some of the rooms are spacious so they could definitely fit around 3-4) and P450 for an extra foam. All rooms have a private shower and bath, and come with complimentary breakfast. There are cheaper rooms and similar priced rooms elsewhere, you have plenty of options once you are in town.
Verdict: 4/5
Would I recommend Lolo Oyong Pension House?
Yes, I would because of the good value you get for the money you spend. There are cheaper rooms and higher priced rooms in town, but it's not about the price it's about the value, that's just my opinion. El Nido is a small town so everything, except for the van terminal, is accessible within 5 minutes whether you want to eat along the beach or eat in Art Cafe. The breakfast was filling and was not the usual toast and coffee/juice like in other hotels or guesthouses I've stayed in before. The bed was comfortable and the wi-fi was better than expected.
