Lionel Messi returns to gym after injury

Lionel Messi returned to the gym on Thursday when his Barcelona teammates were getting their training. It is a possibility that the 25-year-old could yet be fit for Barca’s coming clash against Real Betis.

Messi sustained knee strain on Wednesday when he was on the threshold of surpassing another milestone. He nearly grabbed his record-equaling 85th goal of this calendar year but during his effort, he clutched his left knee, rolling around on the ground. The injury put him beyond doubt for the leaders’ next La Liga match this weekend.

“I sincerely thought it was the last ball I would be touching for a long time because of the pain,” Messi said. “I tried to go ahead and shoot but I didn’t have the strength.”

Lionel Messi said that he was feeling much better than the previous day but couldn’t say about his participation in Sunday’s clash.

Messi shared his expressions that he was unable to understand anything when the incident was happened. Due to the extreme pain, he believed that he would be sidelined for a long time but it was a relief when the physician observed and ruled out a serious injury.

Lionel Messi is just one goal away from Gerd Muller’s record of 85 goals in one calendar year. Messi scored his 83rd and 84th goals of this season on Saturday in Barcelona’s 5-1 success against Athletic Bilbao in a La Liga match.

Lionel Messi is the qualifier for “FIFA’s world player of the year” award along with his teammate Andres Iniesta and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo. He has already won the same award in last three years.
