We live in interesting times to say the least.
Having just posted about Christopher Dornan's hero worshippers this morning, I was leisurely looking for additional fodder for posting, hoping to find something less depressing and more inspiring and came across two videos that are making the rounds in my Facebook feeds.
The first one features a lecture by Alan West, who encourages those watching to not pursue money as the object of life's desires but to instead do what is in what's heart to do and forget the money. It's been seen by over 1.5 million people and so clearly, is resonating:
It's hard to find fault in that lecture. I think it filled with wisdom.
Yet shortly after watching it, I came across what follows. It's a video trailer of an upcoming movie purposed in encouraging young women to consider a life of vocation.
I am struck by two things in what you're about to see. One, the joy in the face of the sister featured. It leaps out at you. Her smile and the light in her eyes seem to me to express that which Mr. Watts in the first video was saying ought to be the object of our life's pursuit. Pure joy and contentment. But there's something else sadly, that I also thought as I watched what you're about to see.
I thought that many would find what follows as something to be derided and/or ridiculed, something so countercultural, even odd, that it would easily be dismissed out of hand. I hope instead that it's merely my own jaded outlook, my own flawed perspective, that would focus so negatively on what others would see in this for I know that what I see in this sister's face is something beautiful, something genuine, something giving evidence for God touching a heart so indelibly that she cannot help but express pure joy.
