Let's move in a little village: Abbadia San Salvatore. We are in the province of Siena, approximately 800 meters above the sea level: we are on the hills. How wonderful is the hilly landscape! It gives a peaceful sensation! The name of this village is related with the Benedictine abbey that had its headquarters here. The first nucleus of the city walls enclosed the shops of the artisans who worked for the Abbey. In the past the abbeys were places of culture, but also for social landmark in the area. The Abbey of San Salvatore - which was built by the Lombards- is very beautiful to visit. The dominion of of the Lombards was very important for the history of the Italy and this age, often overlooked, had some great characters. Do you have a bit of time? Lose yourself in the narrow streets of the old town. You will find yourself in a labyrinth of the chiassi(the ancient narrow streets) that cross together and create a very impressive place! Admire the architecture of the houses that surround you. Among the architectural structures you can admire the comune , the tribunale with the elements of Gothic art, the door of Torione. During the industrial era the development of the mines had partly changed this village. It was expanded but it lost its beauty and it became a dormitory for the poor. That period gradually disappeared, and the upgrading of the village brought it back to its original splendor- luckily, I add. I think that wasting the historical evidences in the name of progress is always a folly. There is no innovation that is worth to sacrifice what comes to us from the past , above all the architectures, the landscape and the art. So today you can still walk around and enjoy this Tuscan village thanks to the intelligent always gives us some unforgettable landscapes. Good walk.
Abbazia San Salvatore
Che ne dite di una gita primaverile in Toscana? La bellezza di questa regione apprezzabile in ogni stagione dell’anno. In primavera avrete occasione di vedere i prati colorati dai fiori e sentire il profumo della natura che si risveglia: le premesse di sicuro non sono male! Spostiamoci in un piccolo borgo : Abbadia San Salvatore. Siamo in provincia di Siena a circa 800 metri di altitudine : quindi in collina. Che meraviglia il paesaggio collinare! Mette pace in ogni anima! Il nome del borgo deriva direttamente dall’abazia benedettina che qui ebbe sede. Le prima cinte murarie racchiudevano le botteghe degli artigiani che lavoravano per l’abazia. Nel passato le abazie erano luoghi di cultura ma anche di riferimento sociale nei dintorni. Una visita merita l’abazia di San Salvatore che fu costruita dai Longobardi. Il periodo di dominio dei longobardi fu molto importante per la storia Italiana e questo periodo, spesso sottovalutato, ricorda grandi personaggi . Avete un po’ di tempo? Perdetevi nella viette del borgo antico. Vi troverete in un reticolo di chiassi ( gli antichi vicoli) che si intrecciano tra loro creando un insieme decisamente suggestivo! Da ammirare l’architettura delle case che vi circonderà. Tra le strutture architettoniche vi salterà all’occhio il comune, il tribunale con elementi di arte gotica, la porta del Torione. Durante l’epoca industriale lo sviluppo delle miniere aveva in parte fatto sì che il borgo si espandesse ma perdessero il suo pregio e diventasse un dormitorio per i più poveri. Quel periodo pian piano scomparve e la rivalorizzazione del borgo lo portò nuovamente al suo originario splendore. Fortunatamente dico io, perché perdere delle testimonianze storiche in nome del progresso per me è sempre e comunque una follia. Non c’è innovazione che valga così la pena da sacrificare ciò che ci arriva dal passato a livello architettonico, paesaggistico ed artistico. Così oggi potete passeggiare ed assaporare ancora questo borgo toscano grazie ad un intelligente recupero del suo aspetto originario e godere della splendida campagna Toscana che ha sempre paesaggi indimenticabili da regalarci.
