Latif Khosa tendered his resignation to President Asif Zardari

Governor Punjab Sardar Latif Khosa, who is set to be replaced by Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood, tendered his resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday.

He met the President in Bilawal House Karachi in afternoon. Law Minister Farooq Naik also attended the meeting.

On this occasion President Zardari, who is also the co-chairman of ruling Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), hailed his services as Governor Punjab.

The removal of Khosa is the part of party’s pre-poll strategy. He was appointed as the Governor of Punjab after the assassination of late-governor Salman Taseer on 11 January 2011.

Mehmood was elected as a member of the Punjab Assembly from PP-292, Rahim Yar Khan on the ticket of Pakistan Muslim League Functional (PML-F) but after being chosen as Punjab Governor he resigned from his party.

Mehmood, who also served as president of PML-F Punjab chapter, is the cousin of former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani and Tehreek e Insaf’s leader Jahangir Khan Tareen is his brother-in-law.
