Lana del Ray unveiled her new single ‘High By The Beach’, which premiered as Zane Lowe’s World Record on Beats 1 and Annie Mac’s Hottest Record on Radio 1.
From the skittering trap beats and synth infusions throughout, Lanas sultry vocals glide effortlessly above the hip-hop inspired beats. Lana’s infectious hook ‘All I wanna do is get high by the beach, get high by the beach, get high’, shrouds the song in a blissful haze, making it one of her poppiest contributions to date.
Speaking with Lowe, Del Ray commented:
‘It started with the chorus. I was driving by the beach a lot…Even with the harmonies, it almost sounded monotone. But then with the beat, it has this trap influence, which I liked.”
She continued to describe her creative approach:
‘It’s different for every artist. For me it was a way of sorting through questions I had and doing something I love doing…The lure for me is the blessing of being able to tell your life story and getting to be witnessed, if that’s something that’s important to you, which I think is important to everybody.
