Mohammad Hafeez shone with both bat and ball as Lahore Lions clinched the Faysal Bank T20 Cup for the second time after defeating Faisalabad Wolves by 33 runs in the stunning finale at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore on Sunday.

The skipper claimed the figures of 4-11 after hitting run-a-ball 22 as, managing a challenging total of 154-7, Lahore Lions restricted Wolves to 121-8.

Lahore Loins, who had earlier lifted the title of Pakistan’s primer domestic tournament in 2010, received a hefty reward of Rs. 2 million.

Faisalabad Wolves failed to gain momentum in chase and lost wickets at regular intervals.

Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq scored 37 from as many balls and Ali Waqas clobbered 25 off 14 balls but the rest of other Faisalabad Wolves batsmen failed to make impact.

All-rounder Abdul Razzaq (2-19) gave visitors an early blow by dismissing opener Farrukh Shehzad (1) before Asif Ali (7) got run out in attempt to complete an inexistent double.

Wolves had not yet recovered from the back-to-back setbacks before Hafeez struck thrice in his alternate overs to remove Waqas, who hit four boundaries and a six, and Khurram Shehzad (1), Jahandad Khan (13).

Misbah-ul-Haq kept the scoreboard ticking single-handedly but was unable to cope with sky-scraping asking rate. His resistance eventually came to an end in the final over when Hafeez secured his catch at deep mid-on off Abdul Razzaq.

Earlier, Ahmed Shehzad (29 off 18) and Nasir Jamshed (42 off 28) delivered Lahore Lions a convincing 44-run opening stand before latter perished to seamer Asad Ali.

Jamshed continued to pile up runs aggressively in the company of Hafeez and propelled the total to 95-1 in 10 overs before both fell in quick-succession.

Thanks to some tight bowling by seamer Ehsan Adil (3-23), who accounted for Umar Akmal (20) and Kamran Akmal (18), Lahore Lions failed to retain the scoring rate in the death overs.
