Know Your Bodies: Is Body #Acne Normal?

By Bren @Virtual_Bren

We managed to get through our teenage years and all the ugly pimples that popped up due to puberty. By our mid 20’s, we found that it was rare if a pimple raised it’s ugly head. Now that you’re in your mid 40’s, you’re finding that not only is acne back in your life but it’s just not centralized to your face either!

Things To Ask Yourself

Before you jump and think the worse, like you have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), ask yourself the following questions:

  • Has their been a change in my diet?
  • Have I started using a different laundry detergent or fabric softener?
  • Have I started taking any new medications?
  • Did I start using a different body soap or body wash?
  • When did I first notice it?

You’ll be lucky if you can pinpoint the acne to one of the above. If not, are you having Menopausal Symptoms?

  • anxiety
  • irritability
  • irregular periods
  • night sweats
  • hot flashes
  • insomnia
  • vaginal dryness
  • painful intercourse

If you answered “YES” to some of the above, there is a chance your body acne is being caused by hormonal changes in your body.

What Can Be Done?

What Can Be Done to Help Stop Body Acne? #Menopause

If you’re a worry wart like me, you might want to visit your Physician and see what he/she recommends. He/she might want to test you for PCOS, just to rule it out.

Other forms of treatment:

  • eat healthy
  • lose body fat
  • cleanse your skin twice daily
  • try tree oil
  • take a good vitamin or mineral supplement for skin
  • use cool water or a toner to close skin pores
  • gently exfoliate twice a week
  • if you’re skin is dry, use a moisturizer
  • use a sauna to sweat out the toxins
  • if you believe to be hormonal, take thistle, squaw vine, cramp bark, and raspberry leaf
  • take Vitamin A
  • consider an acne prescription

Last case scenario, consult your Physician or a Dermatologist.

On a Personal Note

I am battling body acne and have yet to visit my Physician. I’ve been trying alternative soaps, watching my laundry detergent, and moisturizing, however; it it continues much longer, I will definitely be discussing with my Physician next visit. I will update this series on Body Acne as I learn more information.

Over To You

As a woman 30 and over, do you find yourself prone to acne? Have you found it to not be centralized to your face?
