Kim Jong Un Attends Celebratory Fireworks Display

Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n) attended a fireworks display entitled ”We will always emerge victorious!” in Pyongyang on 27 July to mark the 60th anniversary of the termination of active hostilities of the Fatherland Liberation War (Korean War).  Joining him at the outdoor venue were “senior officials of the party, state and army, war veteran delegates, officials of the party, armed forces and power organs, working people’s organizations, ministries and national institutions, bereaved families of martyrs, service personnel of the KPA and the Korean People’s Internal Security Forces, merited persons and Pyongyangites,” “delegations and delegates of various countries, diplomatic envoys of various countries and members of military attaches here and other foreign guests” and “the congratulatory group of Koreans in Japan and other delegations of overseas compatriots and other compatriots and the chief of the Pyongyang mission of the Anti-imperialist National Democratic Front.”

According to KCNA, “various parts of the city centering around the bank of the River Pot’ong where the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Tower stands were crowded with service personnel of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) and people from all walks of life who gathered to watch fireworks of jubilation and joy.”  Korean Workers’ Party [KWP] Secretary and Director of the Propaganda and Agitation Department Kim Ki Nam delivered a speech prior to the music and fireworks program.  According to KCNA Kim said “the fireworks to be displayed in the nocturnal sky of Military-First (So’ngun) Korea represent the boundless reverence of all the service personnel and people for the peerlessly great men of Mt. Paektu who defeated the U.S. imperialist aggressors, led the showdown with the U.S. to victory after victory and protected the destiny of the country, nation and socialism.”  As the song “Our July 27″ played “kaleidoscopic fireworks” appeared over the renovated Victorious Fatherland Liberation War (Korean War) Museum and “beautifully decorated the nocturnal sky.”  As “Song of National Defense” was played fireworks appeared over the “Victory” statue at the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Memorial Tower and illuminated a Kim Jong Un autograph monument.  The fireworks display continued as the songs “Our General is the Best” and “Might of Korea” played.  The grand finale took place whilst “Forward to the Final Victory” and “We Will Defend General Kim Jong Un at the Cost of Our Lives” played.  According to KCNA the fireworks display “reflected the glory the service personnel and people of the DPRK extended to Kim Jong Un who is adding shine to the exploits Kim Il Sung performed by leading the war to victory and the Military-First (So’ngun) revolutionary leadership feats of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il” and that “service personnel and people who enjoyed the gala were overwhelmed with the immense pleasure and happiness of watching the significant fireworks gala in the presence of Kim Jong Un. “
