Kim Jong Il Statue Unveiled at People’s Security University Campus

A ceremony unveiling a statue of late DPRK leader Kim Jong Il (Kim Cho’ng-il) on the campus of the Kim Jong Il University of People’s Security was held on 19 July (Friday).  Senior officials of the Korean Workers’ Party [KWP], the Ministry of People’s Security [MPS] and its affiliate the Korean People’s Internal Security Forces, the Korean People’s Army [KPA] and DPRK Government attended the ceremony, along with MPS and KPISF personnel and students, faculty and administration of the university.  Unveiling the KJI statue were Kim Yong Nam (President of the Supreme People’s Assembly), Pak Pong Ju (DPRK Cabinet Premier), VMar Choe Ryong Hae (Director of the KPA General Political Department) and KJI University of People’s Security Rector Kim Chang Il.  According to KCNA the statue is a realization of “the greatest desire of the teachers and students of the university and all public security men and servicepersons of the Korean People’s Internal Security Forces.”

After the statue was unveiled a floral basket from Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n) was delivered to its pedestal.  A floral basket jointly sent by the Party Central Committee, the SPA Presidium and DPRK Cabinet and a floral basket jointly sent by the MPS and KPISF Political Bureau were also placed in front of the statue.  After the unveiling and floral presentations, the ceremony’s participants “paid tribute to the statue in humblest reverence.”  Gen. Choe Pu Il, Minister of People’s Security, delivered a dedication speech.  According to KCNA, Gen. Choe “noted that the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il provided a guarantee for making it possible for the university to creditably perform its mission and duty as a pedigree institution training backbone elements preserving its revolutionary character and firmly protecting the security of the social system, the single-minded unity of the revolutionary ranks and the life and properties of the people in each grim period” and that “only victory and glory are in store for the Korean people under the leadership of the great Military-First (So’ngun) commander, calling on everybody to get united close around Kim Jong Un to turn out in the struggle to achieve a final victory in the showdown with the U.S. and building a thriving nation.”

After the speech, honor guards of the KPA ground, naval, air and anti-air forces and the Worker-Peasant Red Guards marched in front of the statue.
