Keep Mother's Day traditions alive
While many countries around the world celebrate Mother's Day, the UK actually calls this occasion Mothering Sunday and it is held on a different date. The two celebrations are pretty much the same in the sense that they involve pampering mum with flowers and gifts. That said, every country has its own variation on these celebrations and the UK is no exception.
Mothering Sunday is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent which means that it usually falls on a Sunday in the month of March. Mother's Day, on the other hand, is celebrated every year on the second Sunday in May. In both cases, there is no specific date for this occasion like there is for Valentine's Day.
Just like in other countries, you can expect UK mothers to be treated to a variety of special gifts. From flowers and chocolates to bath and body products and even jewellery, there are so many amazing gifts from which to choose. Since Mothering Sunday does not fall on the same day or even the same month as Mother's Day in other countries, UK florists enjoy one of their busiest days in Mardh rather than May. Roses and carnations are two of the most popular flowers for Mother's Day. Roses are popular for many occasions while carnations are traditionally associated with this occasion.
Another fun Mothering Sunday tradition involves making simnel cake. This is an almond cake which is also referred to as a mothering cake. This is more than just a cake. It's your way of showing mum how much you love and appreciate her.
No matter where in the world you are or how busy your life might be, it's important that you never miss Mother's Day or Mothering Sunday. In addition, never underestimate the value of your time.
