Just Because Everyone Is Doing It Doesn’t Mean You Should

By Lynnwhite619 @lynnwhite

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson

When I was a kid, many times when I wanted to do something, I would run to my Mom or Dad and ask if I could do it too.  My Mother was famous for one of two replies: “Well, I’m not their Mother.” Or “If they jump off the Empire State Building, are you going to do it to?”  I can remember at the time thinking,  ”what does the Empire State Building have to do with this?  I just want to go to the party!”  Did your Mom do that to you too?”

Now that I am older, I understand what she was trying to do.  She was trying to teach me to be my own person; to be a leader and not a follower, to make my own decisions.  I’m thankful to have parents that tried to teach me that lesson, because it is truly an invaluable lesson.  For some reason, when I was a Wedding Planner, I forgot that lesson.  I tried to be just like everyone else, because I thought that was what would work; it worked for them, so why wouldn’t it work for me?  When it didn’t I couldn’t figure out why it didn’t.

You know what I finally figured out?

What works for one, will not necessarily work for you!  It works for them because it comes natural, because it is their vision.  You can’t have everyone’s vision and you can only be the best you, you can be!
