Juniperus conferta ‘Blue Pacific’ is an evergreen shrub with a low growing spreading habit. The blue/ green leaves are needle like, up to 12mm long and produce the distinctive Juniper smell when crushed. The bark is reddish brown although difficult to see due to the dense foliage. The species, Juniperus conferta, is dioecious. Its fruit are berry like cones, these are blue/ green in color and up to 12mm across.

Juniperus conferta ‘Blue Pacific’ is commonly known as Blue Pacific Shore Juniper. The species Juniperus conferta is native to coastal regions of Japan.

The etymological root of the binomial name Juniperus is derived from the old Latin name for the Juniper plant. Conferta is from the Latin meaning ‘crammed’.

The landscape architect may find Juniperus conferta ‘Blue Pacific’ useful as an effective low maintenance, low growing evergreen ground cover plant, particularly when planted en mass. This plant is also suitable for use as an erosion control species. Once established this plant is drought tolerant and will tolerate hot locations. It will tolerate urban pollution.

Juniperus conferta ‘Blue Pacific’ prefers well-drained soils. It is tolerant of most pH of soil. It will not tolerate water-logging. It does well in dry, sandy soils.

Juniperus conferta ‘Blue Pacific’ requires little maintenance. It may be tip pruned to control size.
