Last week we went to the far end of Plaquemines Parish to the southern most point in Louisiana. It is part of a project we are doing to go to the end of every road in LA that ends in the Gulf. We began with some great raw oysters at Salvo's in Belle Chase, along with piles of fried oysters, shrimp and clams and some excellent shrimp and corn soup.
At the end of the road, just beyond Venice, we saw open water with bird draped trees.
On the way back we stopped at Fort Jackson. It was constructed as a coastal defense of New Orleans, between 1822 and 1832, and it was a battle site during the American Civil War. It was built on the advice of Andrew Jackson, for whom it is named.
