Java Heat Review: Indonesian Buddy-Action Film is Not Bad
Kellan Lutz and Mickey Rourke stars in this low-budget buddy-action flick set in the Indonesian island, Java. With a mix of people who have funny English accent and awkward acting style's, Java Heat follows a cliché story of two cop-buddies who teams up to saves the day from a wealthy, obsessed villain.
Note: Contains some minor spoilers
Almost all the actors in the film gets featured with Indonesian actors and it's not easy to figure out their English without the subs. Film is entirely shot in Indonesia, hence the witty title "Java Heat". Either way, I didn't hesitate to grab this film at first sight, because I was tempted by the fact that it's set in the same country where "Raid Redemption" was born, a movie on my top 10 action movies list. However, at the end I was a little disappointed that I rushed into this film because it failed to live up to my expectations.
First half of the movie is a little bit confusing and also boring as it it left me with some loose ends in the story, where we have to wait till the end of first half to figure out. Basically, it's about two guys, an Indonesian Cop named Hashim (Ario Bayu) and an ex-MP officer from the U.S. Jake Travers (Kellan Lutz). In the beginning these two  struggles to understand each other and settle their differences. Hashim is an angry cop who always likes to correct people and Jake, he's more of a badass dude set on his mission, he never really listens to anybody.
When it all comes to saving the day, these two set aside their differences when Malik (Mickey Rourke), the bad guy abducts Javanese Sultan's daughter, Sultana and Hashim's family. Then these two not-so buddies team up to take down Malik, who apparently has some sick habits.

As far as I can tell, the director/producer, Conor Allyn did a good job with the film. He managed to keep the suspense on top of all, which I think is enough to cover the disappointing hand-to-hand combat scenes and those lame gun-fights. I can't vote for the acting, however I feel like saying that Mickey Rourke did really saved this film. Without him on-board, this film would have been a complete disaster. And in my defense I didn't know that Kellan Lutz is a sparkly guy from Twilight. And, I can assure you that he's only good for that part because he sucks as an action star and fights like a girl.
I don't usually recommend something if it's bad. So, go with Java Heat only if you got nothing to watch, at all. Or if you have enough cash to burn on something 'not really bad'. Considering the badass performance of Mickey Rourke, scenes of hot Asian chicks, and the kidnapping scene of the treasure truck, I'm giving "Java Heat" a rating of 2.5 / 5 stars.
