Japanese Food Festival at Sheraton, Bangalore

Sheraton Bangalore Hotels’ multi-cuisine restaurant, Feast has a Japanese Festival running from the 5th to the 14th of July, 2013. Chef Kyoji Endo from Westin Tokyo is here in Bangalore to showcase the best of Japanese cuisine to the food lovers here.

A fan of both sushi and nigri rolls, I started my meal with these two. The sushi tasted decent but was a little chewy. I also tried the udon noodles which were served with a dashi based broth which is heavy on dark soy sauce. Considering the rainy Bangalore weather this was just what I wanted after the rather long drive to the hotel.

Tempura’s always been a favorite and here both the veg and shrimp tempuras were extremely well made. The batter was fluffy and crisp. The tempura was served with three different types of powders and soy sauce. Of the three powders the Japanese Curry Powder stood out in terms of its flavours.

Moving on to the main course, I tried the tonkatsu,  a breaded pork cutlet. This was clearly the highlight of the entire meal.  The meat was succulent and juicy while the crust was nice and crisp. I also tried the fried tofu in gravy and was pleasantly surprised at how good it tasted. The tofu just melted in my mouth and the gravy complimented the dish well. There was also whitefish in vinegar sauce but somehow this dish didn’t appeal to me as the fish was overcooked.

I wrapped up my meal with green tea ice-cream which I felt needed a bit more of the green tea flavor in it. Overall, if you are craving for some good sushi or even pork in the Bangalore rains, the Japanese Festival is where you need to head to before it gets over.
