Philly’s dream pop four-piece Japanese Breakfast took a break from their mission to deliver fuzzed out rays of sunshine straight to our ears with the latest track, “Psychopomp,” off of their album of the same name. “Psychopomp” doesn’t offer the same blissed out cheeriness as the album’s previous singles; instead it’s a heart crushing musical interlude that soundtracks sadness and loss, as it addresses the passing of frontwoman Michelle Zauner’s mother to cancer in 2014. The song is short but heartbreaking, showing how powerfully Zauner can access her emotions through her music.
