Japan March 2014- One Day in Osaka: Dontoburi Street

By Vegsmoothiebunny
So after a good long sleep after yesterday's tiring road trip from Tokyo to Osaka, we leave our apartment to explore Osaka!
Okay, so I take that back. We didn't exactly 'explore' Osaka. We just went to their main street (Dotonburi) and explored all the food options there. Haha. Maybe I should just rename this post as 'Place to Eat in Osaka' haha. Also we only woke up around 10am so the day was pretty much half gone by the time we left. :)
Since I had only ever been to Tokyo, Osaka was such an eye opener for me :) Prices were MUCH lower than Tokyo as well. There wasn't much to see 'historically' but it seemed like such a good place to eat and shop! I very excitedly texted my friends back home to insist we travel to Osaka for our next Japan trip! Haha!
First up, we took the train to Namba station. Namba is really really famous and if you only have one day in Osaka, this is the place to head for food! There were rows and rows of street food and I'm sorry there is such a dearth of photos because I was well.. busy eating. :/ haha. Only food photos here!
The streets were crazy bustling with people and the queues for all the good food were SO LONG!
Anyway, pictures!

Next to the crab store was Osaka Osho!
I used to love Osaka Osho's gyozas but recently they got too salty :(
Osaka Osho in Osaka sells meatballs as well!

We initially wanted to go to a Jap/ Italian restaurant that's really popular but the queue was just INSANE. So we ended up at some random ramen place. :)

Honestly these are all food that I would NEVER eat in Singapore because I don't like the takoyaki balls AT ALL.It just all tastes like lumps of thick starchy flour and a miniscule amount of squid or ham/ cheese etc. As for the egg tarts, I had food poisoning in Hongkong once and my first meal after were egg tarts and ever since then I kinda always associated the food with food poisoning. ALso I generally don't like pastries/ cakes etc. But GUYS. You really must try the takoyaki balls in Osaka/ Japan. The batter is so light it almost melts in your mouth upon contact. Aye, I say if you want to indulge, indulge in only the best! As for the egg tarts, I gingerly took a bite (never knock something till you've tried it!) and was just BLOWN away. The crust was just so soft and light and layered and the egg was sooo smooth with a slight burnt caramel touch. Such a pleasure seriously! Egg tarts from Lord Stole's bakery! :)
After eating ALL of that, we ended up in a small chic cafe for... more food!
Maison de giggi Waffle/ Pancake Cafe. (It had cat motifs all over and I was a bit disappointed to realize it wasn't really a cat cafe haha)

We had the banana chocolate waffle and the cookies and cream and both were great but I was over stuffed with sugar by then and feeling sleepy and heavy. Nothing a good hot cup of earl gray couldn't help with though!

The rest of the time was just wandering through the streets and looking at all the pretty clothes and shopping for loved ones back home. :)
And that concludes my one day in Osaka!
