True Blood’s Janina Gavankar (Luna) has been quite busy this hiatus focusing on her music. Back in August, the actress released her new single Waiting for Godot and recently she spoke with Buzzine Bollywood about her passion for music while sitting in a playground castle.
Gavankar is well known for her acting roles but she actually grew up involved in music:
“Yeah! I grew up as a musician first. I didn’t really even know I wanted to be an actor until high school. I’m kind of a classical kid. I’m still using the same artistic process that I procured when I was in grade school. Nothing much has changed from my nerdy days. (Laughs). I’ve somehow made it work for me.”
As an actor, Janina finds herself applying the same process she uses for music to acting. For her dissecting a piece of music is very similar to dissecting a scene.
Waiting For Godot was released on American Idol’s Randy Jackson’s music label and is named after the play of the same name about two men who wait for a man who never comes. But it isn’t her first single. Last year Janina released a single called Love Lockdown based on a song by Kanye West:
“You know, somewhere along the way I realized I was listening to the radio a little differently than everybody else does. So I took a song I thought was beautiful by Kanye West … and I did a flip. (Chuckles). I tore it apart to its bare bones and kept the things that meant to me the most, which was some of the melody and all of the words, and restructured it.”
Janina is currently working on a video for Waiting for Godot and plans to release a teaser soon. We can’t wait to see it!
