According to The Wrap, The director for Star Wars Episode VII has been revealed, and it is J. J. Abrams. There is no official press release to follow this news, but sources are going wild over the fact that LucasFilm might have hired J.J. Abrams.

The report says many other directors where in consideration for the job including, Ben Affleck, but that new LucasFilm head Kathleen Kennedy has been after Abrams for the job. It remains to be see how much proof is in this report since J.J. Abrams has been quoted as saying he would never abandon the Star Trek franchise for Star Wars.

From the EW interview:

Ultimately, though, the longtime Lucas trilogy admirer decided against picking up a lightsaber of his own. “I quickly said that because of my loyalty to ‘Star Trek,’ and also just being a fan, I wouldn’t even want to be involved in the next version of those things,” Abrams told Empire. “I declined any involvement very early on. I’d rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them.”

Here’s enough proof to justify this story as true:

UPDATE: Borys Kit from The Hollywood Reporter posts on Twitter, “Confirmed: J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars Episode 7! Sources say the negotiations quite down the road.” Variety also confirms the news.
