Gianna, over at the Inside True Blood Blog – posted recently about characters’ names, in their “What’s in a character name?” post! We figured you might find it interesting…or at least you’ll be entertained by my ranting!

This is what was said;
In the first episode of this season, you will be introduced to new character CAT INGERSLEV. The writer of the episode, Brian Buckner, took the name from some lovely ladies in our art department: Art Director Cat Smith and Production Designer Suzuki Ingerslev. This isn’t the first time a writer has taken liberties like this. Can you find any other names in our credits from previous seasons that may have inspired characters?
Before I get into this a little more…I want to apologize in advance, because this is going to turn into a rant – really fast! You better brace yourself…here are my thoughts.
- Brian Buckner, who wrote Season 4, Episode 2: this was before Eric loses his memory and calls Sookie, ‘saucy’ . But he also wrote Episode 9 as well…you know the one…terrible threesome, anyone? I’m not sure, it this is a good thing or a bad thing or not…but Brian can write good or bad, depending on what kind of mood he’s in.
- Why in the hell are they making up character names when True Blood is supposed to be based on a book series, with already established characters? You have NO idea how much I’m pissed off by this, because it’s obvious True Blood is NOT going to be following the books anytime soon.
- Why in the hell are we supposed to care about an another character, when they already have too many as it is? Do they need to hire every actor in Hollywood? Is that it? Do they have to have X number of cast members? WTF are they going to do with them all?
- And why would we want to remember other characters in the past, who had made up names? Obviously, we don’t care about them here at this site. All we care about is Eric and Sookie. I’m sure True Blood could find something much more interesting to talk about on their blog…like maybe, show us behind-the-scenes look at their sets or something? Spoilers? You name it, but this topic is pretty lame, IMO.

I’ve bored you long enough with my ranting…and sorry again, if I got carried away. That was only my opinion and I wanted to get it off my chest!
