It’s Monday, What are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
I’m enjoying a nice long Labor Day weekend but feeling a little bummed about summer being over. We had an unusually nice summer here in the DC region, and now it’s back to school and heading towards cooler weather. At least there’s football.
In August, here’s what I read:

- Number the Stars — Lois Lowry
- East of Eden — John Steinbeck
- The End of Innocence — Allegra Jordan
- The Full Ridiculous — Mark Lamprell
- A Test of Wills — Charles Todd
And here’s what I reviewed:
- The Ghost in the Electric Blue Suit – Graham Joyce
- The Awakening – Kate Chopin
- East of Eden – John Steinbeck
- The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry – Gabrielle Zevin
- Stardust – Neil Gaiman
- The End of Innocence – Allegra Jordan
- Episodes 1 through 4 of Outlander the Series
It was a very good month for reading and reviewing! My favorite this month was East of Eden, but Number the Stars and Parasite were also very good.
And of course I’ve been glued to Outlander, in case you haven’t noticed. I’ve been reading the book after each episode so I can see what was the same and what was different.
It was also a good month for challenges: East of Eden counts towards the Classic Club. Number the Stars counts towards the Classics Club and also the TBR Pile Challenge and the Around the World Challenge. The Awakening counts towards the Classic Club and TBR Pile Challenge.
What am I reading now? A book called The Spider and the Stone, a historical novel by Glen Craney about 12th Century Scotland, Robert Bruce, James Douglas and the Wars for Scottish Independence.
I recently discovered my library’s Overdrive system and picked up: Shades of Milk and Honey by Mary Robinette Kowal and The Reason I Jump, written by a thirteen year old boy with autism. I’m excited about both of these picks and even more excited about all the free books I’ll be reading from my library! The system is great, easy to search. I’ve built my wishlist and put holds on a lot of books. Now if I only had more time to read.
