Is The Glass Half-Full Or Half-Empty: College Major Edition

Is the glass half empty or half full? is a common expression, used rhetorically to indicate that a particular situation could be a cause for optimism (half full) or pessimism (half empty). Of course it is neither full nor empty.
As one with a scientific background I would say that the volume of a glass is divided into two equal parts; one a colorless, odorless liquid, the other a colorless, odorless gas. So, each half of the glass is full, one with a gas, one with a liquid.
