Is Menopause the End of the World?

By Bren @Virtual_Bren

Why do so many women see Menopause as the end of the world? Is it because they are no longer able to get pregnant and give birth to a child? Is this the main reason? Or is there more to it such as a sign of growing older and closer to death?

Is Menopause Really the End of the World

Is Menopause the End of the World?

The other night I was watching an episode of That 70’s Show. Ok, I’ll admit it. I love that show and the reruns never cease to get me laughing.

This particular episode is the one when Kitty thinks she is pregnant. She and Red go through all the pre baby things, including Red selling his beloved Corvette. They even invite Kitty’s mother and father out to visit so they can make the announcement.

However, the announcement isn’t going to be quite so happy.

Menopause

the moment menstruation ceases for a one year period. this generally happens between 45 and 50 but can’t vary by individual.

Kitty has a doctor appointment earlier in the day and finds out she is not pregnant. She is, however, beginning Menopause. She sees this as the end of the world! Instead of picking out baby clothes, she believes she should be picking out caskets!

Of course, this is a comedy show so it’s not quite so serious but they manage to get the point across.

It’s Not the End of the World

I have a confession to make.

I’m Late!

Of course, I know I am not pregnant and am not really upset that I’m late. I’m actually embracing it and hoping this is the beginning of my menopausal year stretch. The fact is, I am anxious to go into menopause. There is no reason for me to stay fertile. I don’t want to bear children. What I am is tired as hell of having a period! (Sorry guys, this is the truth here.)

The fact that I will no longer have a monthly cycle and all the glorious bullshit that goes along with that, thrills me to no end! I want it! I must have it! Let it begin now!

It’s the Beginning of a New Journey

Look at Menopause as a kind of rebirth. We are embarking on another journey in our life and this one should be refreshing and liberating! By now, we should have gotten over all our baby making years and enjoy sex without the worriment of getting pregnant!

Is Menopause Really the End of the World?

Of course, our body will go through several changes, but isn’t this part of life? Think back to our adolescence and how excited we were about getting our period. This was a “sign” we were becoming a woman.

No longer having a period does not make us less a woman, it makes us more! Do you know how many women never live to see Menopause? Embrace it as a milestone! A new journey! A new freedom! And, just think of all the money you’ll save from not having to buy tampons and pads!

Seriously, This Should be Embraced!

Don’t get me wrong. I know there are many women who will disagree with me when it comes to Menopause. I understand that. We are all unique individuals with our own beliefs.

I just want to let you know:

  • You’re not alone

We, women, all experience this at some point in our lives and continue on from there. It’s not the end, trust me.

Over to You

How do you feel about Menopause? Is this something you are looking forward to or dreading? If you are already there, has it changed your life and if so, how? I’d love to hear from you!
