Is Meizu M5 Worth Your Time and Investment?

By Travelrasoi @travelrasoi

Meizu has recently launched an all new entry level smartphone Meizu M5, for the budget phone admirers in India. With this move, the Chinese company is looking to target buyers who are specifically interested in purchasing mobile phones in the sub 10-K category. Meizu’s latest gadget comes in two different versions and feature different RAM as well as storage sizes.

Here, we are reviewing the 2GB RAM and 16 GB storage smartphone from the company that currently retails around Rs 7000. Let’s find out what Meizu M5 has to offer in terms of features in addition to determining whether the smartphone is worth your investment or not.

The Hardware

Meizu M5 is big in terms of size and the company continues to retain the same size and appearance as its previous handset – the M2. With a plastic based rear panel, the phone boasts of attractive and curvy sides that further add to its overall appearance. Apart from the phone, buyers will also get the usual 5V/2A mobile charging plug as well as a microUSB cable. The smartphone features a 5.2 inch screen that offers a resolution of around 720p. Meizu M5 offers an excellent viewing angle i.e. wide with absolutely no distortion of color.  The phone offers a loud enough speaker, which makes it a great choice for users who love going hands-free during their phone conversations. The M5 comes with the 1.5GHZ octa-core MediaTek MT6750 processor, which is decent enough for enjoying games like Asphalt 8.

Overall Design and Build

The gadget does not have a very attractive design and build but can be comfortably held in hands, owing to its round edges as well as a 2.5D curved-edge glass. Additionally, the phone features a home button right below its screen, which comes with an in-built fingerprint sensor.

Camera Captures it All

One of the most striking features of the Meizu M5 is its 13 mega-pixel rear camera, which certainly does a good job of capturing bright and stunning images. The camera works well during day light conditions but may fail to offer desired results during low lighting conditions. The frontal camera, on the other hand, is slightly poor in comparison to the rear one.

Battery Power

The smartphone is packed with a 3070mAh battery that lasts for an entire day. In fact, even after gaming, downloading music and browsing the internet, you will be left with 15-20% of battery power at the end of the day. This is slightly higher than its previous launch (Meizu m3) in terms of battery capacity. Thus, Meizu M5 is definitely a good choice for users who need to use their smartphones for around 7-8 hours on a daily basis.

The Final Verdict

Meizu M5 2GB version is without doubt a good choice for users who do not wish to spend more than 7K on their smartphones. The gadget packs a decent design and offers good enough performance in terms of camera and battery power. Also, Meizu hasn’t partnered with Google Services and therefore the M5 does not come with pre-installed Google Services. The device also does not feature an FM radio, which ideally should not have been the case.

However, if you are interested in buying an inexpensive yet good looking smartphone, then go ahead and grab this one but make sure you bring home the 32GB version as that would provide you with a higher storage capacity.
