Is Going Vegan the Next Big Thing?

Posted on the 23 May 2016 by Cheekymeeky

More and more people seem to be going vegan lately. There are many reasons, both ethical and health wise to eat less meat. You don't need to do much research to realise just how much energy it takes up making the meat sold in supermarkets - so much of it tends to get wasted too. However, it seems that some people are becoming vegan now for the wrong reasons. If you can't go 5 minutes without talking about being vegan, are you doing it for yourself, or to try to portray some sort of distorted self-image to others? I seriously respect people who want to help the environment. But do we have to put a label on it? Vegan, vegetarian, whatever you say or think you are - is a label necessary? As long as you're doing your best, that's all that really matters! With that in mind, here's how to take some steps to help make the world a better place:

Start With Yourself

If you want to make the world a better place, stop looking outside of yourself and start looking inside of yourself. Happiness, world peace, everything starts from inside of us. Don't try to change anybody else without first looking at yourself. Many theories state that if you can take responsibility for everything that happens in your experience, whether it has anything directly to do with you or not, you'll make the world a better place. They say that because something has simply shown up in your experience, it shows there is something going on inside of you that caused it. This doesn't make you guilty, just human! Work on judgements you've made, and beliefs you hold that may not actually be true. When you start with yourself, you should notice the world around you change as a result. You might not solve world hunger, but you'll make the world better in your own little way. As small as that may seem, you've still changed the world!

Volunteer

If you want to do something worthwhile for others, try volunteering for a cause or charity close to your heart. You might want to travel and work overseas helping people, or simply work in the charity shop on the corner. Giving up your time for a worthwhile cause is a great way to change the world and feel good about yourself.

Give To Charity

Give to charity. Instead of selling things when you're done with them, give them away. Find a charity you like and give to it regularly, or give to causes that are close to your friend's hearts. You don't have to give all of your money away, but giving occasionally is a great way to start changing the world.

Donate Blood

Donating blood can literally save a life. It might seem scary, but the people who take the blood will put you at ease and make sure you're safe before it's started. It barely takes any time at all, and afterwards you get to relax with a biscuit. Then you can continue on, safe in the knowledge that you may have just given somebody another chance at life!

Eat Less Meat

What this whole post started from: meat-eating. You don't have to quit eating meat altogether, by any means. It's a personal choice! But why not eat a little less than you do now? You could do meatless Mondays, or just consciously try to eat more vegetables and things that are grown naturally in the earth. This is great for the environment, and of course the animals. You can also use meat substitutes like quorn to help you.

Buy Fewer Items Made From Animal Byproducts

The amount of products that contain animal byproducts will likely shock you. There are lip balms, sweets, and other products that contain things derived from animals. Marshmallows for instance, contain gelatine, which is taken from pigs and cows. Work on buying more ethical products and researching ingredients of the things you buy. The more clued up you are, the better. This article about Hampton Creek will give you a little more insight into products you can get without animal byproducts such as eggs.

Random Acts Of Kindness

Random acts of kindness benefit everybody. Some people call paying it forward. They do say that whatever goes around comes around, so spread the love! Pay for somebody's coffee. Pay for a stranger's food shop. Give away something to somebody in need. Give your time helping somebody on a project. Leave a cute positive note inside a book in the library to make somebody's day. The world needs more magical little gestures like this!

Use Your Talents To Help Others

We all came in the world with talents. Some people are great at giving advice. Some can sing. Some can clean houses in less than an hour. Whatever your random and wonderful talents are, use them to help others. Shine your light as bright as you can in the world and you'll make such a big difference!

Save Energy

Work on ways you can save energy to help the planet. There are literally hundreds of ways you can do this. You can turn off lights, and switch things off at the wall. Avoid using too much water. Invest in double glazing and things that will save money and energy in the long run. There are no end to the amount of things you can do.

Adopt Rescue Pets

When families get pets, they usually buy new and get a baby, be it a hamster, puppy, rabbit, or something else. Instead of doing this, why not adopt a rescue pet? Rescue pets have had a tough start in life, and need a loving home to go to. Some of these rescue pets never get taken in as so many people want brand new. Look at a rescue pet before buying a new pet!

Be Grateful For All You Have

Make sure you're grateful for all you have. Somebody will always have more than you, but that doesn't necessarily mean they have more happiness. You have a lot more than others. You wake up every morning! Make sure you're grateful and you'll live a better life, changing the world as you go.
