It’s a bit late, but I haven’t had a chance to share my
October Ipsy Bag with you! The “theme” appears to be “Beauty Candy,” though I
must say that I never notice any actual consistent theme to Ipsy’s picks.
Actually, I don’t notice much of a theme with any of these sample boxes. I find that completely unimportant
anyway, so let’s get back to this month’s Ipsy bag. And can I just say that I
really like the beautiful teal color of the bag! It looks kind of cheap thanks
to it’s shiny plastic quilted texture, but I still have to admit that something
about it I really like! The actual contents, well, let’s see about those! J
The first sample of the month was not inside the bag. I
doubt it would fit if they had tried! It’s from a brand called Ecru New York and it is a hair product.
It’s called the Acacia Protein BB Cream
and it’s a Beauty Balm for Hair. It contains Acacia collagen, wheat and silk
proteins, jojoba and monoi oils, Panthenol, and Silk Amino Acids for
conditioning, manageability, smoothness, body and shine. I haven’t actually
tried it yet (shocking, I know), but it’s a generous sized sample. It smells
really nice too – kind of fresh, clean and sweet all in one without being too
strong or overpowering. It is color safe and paraben free, so that’s a plus! It
seems like a nice product, though I’m not sure about their cruelty free status.
Moving into the bag itself, there is a giant foil packet.
No, it’s not the kind you’re thinking. It’s a 10-count travel size packet of
the Skyn Iceland Glacial Cleansing
Cloths. These facial cleansing cloths have White Willow Bark and Cucumber
Extract, as well as Aloe Juice, Artic Cranberry Seed oil and they are actually
made with Icelandic Glacial Water! Not entirely sure what benefits there are to
all those things, but they sound good.
They are also free of parabens, petrolatum, mineral oil, chemical sulfates,
phthalates and dyes. The cloths are 100% vegan and Dermatologist tested for
sensitive skin. All sounds lovely, but I’m not really big on facial wipes these
days. I am also unsure of their cruelty free status. Still, it’s always nice to
have face wipes around just in case.
The next largest item is actually full sized! Unfortunately,
it’s a really inexpensive and not terribly exciting product. Well, it’s a
mascara which is something I like to
try, but I have so many of them to
try from all these boxes and just free samples with online orders that I’m
actually really tired of mascaras. I never thought I’d say that! J It is from NYC, which I feel like may have lost
its cruelty free status at some point, but I’m not at all certain of that. It’s
the Big Bold Curl Mascara and it’s
apparently a new product. The wand appears to be a standard curling wand – the
curved variety and I think it has natural bristles, which I typically prefer.
It claims to provide 12 times more volume and 99% more curl and lift. That’s
quite the claim! I don’t buy it, but you never know! I suppose it’s a good
sample, but somehow a $5 or less mascara in my beauty bag doesn’t make me very
excited.
Something that I am
excited about is a hand cream! It is from Figs
& Rouge, again I know nothing about their cruelty free status, and it’s
called the Nourishing and Soothing Hand
Cream with Shea Butter. The scent is in “Rose Berry,” which sounds so
intriguing! The packaging is also stinking adorable! It has a soft berry scent,
but I don’t pick up a whole lot of the rose. Maybe a touch. It’s actually quite
a complex and beautiful scent. It smells really freakin’ good! The cream is
thick and very creamy. It’s not the
least bit sticky or greasy and leaves just a hint of the scent on your hands.
It’s a really wonderful hand cream! The tube is pretty small at 20mL/0.67oz, but it’s a fantastic size for taking
on the go. Really like this stuff!
Last but not least is a lip gloss! It’s an itty bitty lip
gloss, but it’s a nice, neutral pinky shade that I think would be safe and
flattering for most skin tones. It is from Starlooks
and it is in the color Guilty Pleasure.
It’s very buttery and quite opaque with practically no stickiness. It has a
pleasant vanillaish scent, which I like. I don’t think the lasting power is
very great, but it’s a nice gloss. I think
Starlooks is cruelty free, but I’m not certain.
So, that does it for October’s bag. It’s really not that
great. I like the hand cream, but the rest I could do without. Nothing
terrible, but nothing too exciting either. Half of the sizes were nice, but the
other half seemed kind of skimpy – at least for Ipsy. Overall I’m just kind of
meh about this bag. I’m feeling that way about a lot of Ipsy bags lately it
seems. L I
keep subscribing though, so it’s my own fault if I’m disappointed! J What do you think if
the October Ipsy bag? Is there anything in there that really wowed you? If you
subscribe to Ipsy, what did you get
this month and were you happy with it? I’d love to know!!! Until next month’s
cheap little bag of disappointment, thanks for stopping by and I hope to see
you again soon. J
