Introducing The 1st Annual Beard Off To Raise Money For The Ulman Cancer Fund For Young Adults

BeardOff

I pimped this event a few weeks back as we prepared for the official launch.  Truly this has little to do with B’More2Boston other than I’ll be participating in the Beard Off and updating the 10s of followers I have on my progress.  Now that we have The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults behind us, I can officially announce this fundraising event.

Starting November 25th and running through February 14th, a team of us will be growing our beards to raise money for The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.  That’s two and a half months, or 82 days, or a hell of long time of beard growing and fundraising all for a good cause.  We’ve added a few things to help make the beard growing more bearable, for example, cleaning up of the neck, the high cheeks, your mustache and sideburns, so that we don’t lose our jobs as our beards get longer.  The fact remains that sometime around mid-January I’m going to be sporting one hell of a beard.

We’re going to organize some happy hours along the way, give away some prizes via the silent auction route and try to raise $20,000.  It’s an ambitious goal, especially around the holidays, but that’s no reason not to try.  I say all the time on this blog that you should go big or go home and this is no different.  In my mind I’m torn, $20k seems like a reachable goal, though I’m not sure how the hell it’s going to happen.  We’ll be selling t-shirts, cardboard beards and whatever else we can do to reach (and hopefully) surpass our goal.

A special shout out to The Quintessential Gentleman where we will be kicking off the event on November 25th with a smooth shave down.

Thanks for any anticipated support you may be able to give.  We all know someone close to us who has been affected by cancer and this is a small effort to try and help some of those people less fortunate than us.

As the events roll, in, I’ll announce them here and on the Official Facebook page, which you should go ahead and Like.

Special thanks to the folks over at The Ulman Cancer Fund for giving us the green light and helping us along the way.  And a shout out to Katie for the bad ass logo that is much better than the one I made in Microsoft Paint.

I’ll keep you updated as to my weekly beard progress as well as any of my friends who want to show their growth.
