Indian women loses series as England takes rain-hit deciderOne time Indian women were 2-0 ahead in the series, but the lost two consecutive matches were drawn by English women. Final and decider match was then rain-hit and went in favor our England women’s by Duckworth-Lewis calculations.

England chose to bowl, and had India in trouble straightaway at 2 for 3. Harmanpreet Kaur made sure India got into triple digits with a hard-fought 40, before lower order cameos got them to 152 for 8. The most damage was inflicted by England’s opening bowlers, Georgia Elwiss and Katherine Brunt, who took five wickets between them while conceding only 36 runs in their 20. Later Elwiss, who claimed six wickets in the series, was named Player of the Series.

India struck an early blow in the chase, Jhulan Goswami removing captain Charlotte Edwards, the double-digit cameos that followed from the rest of the top order were enough to give England the game. The most effective of the lot came from Sarah Taylor, who knocked off 21 at more than a run a ball. Lydia Greenway top scored with an unbeaten 37.

Final score for the tournament:

First ODI (Lords): Eng – 229/10 (49.1 overs, A Brindle – 58 runs off 73 balls, A Das – 4 wkts off 9.1 overs), Ind – 230/5 (49.3 overs, Mithali Raj 94 runs off 111 balls Not Out, D Hazell – 2 wkts off 6.3 overs). India won by 5 wickets (with 3 balls remaining).

Second ODI (Taunton): Ind – 129/10 (47.5 overs, A Sharma – 42 runs off 87 balls Not Out, KH Brunt – 4 wkts off 10 overs), Eng – 115/10 (47.2 overs, TT Beaumont – 31 runs off 89 balls, J Goswami – 4 wkts off 8.2 overs). India won by 14 runs.

Third ODI (Taunton): Ind – 173/5 (50 overs, Mithali Raj – 92 runs off 138 balls Not Out, DN Wyatt – 2 wkts off 10 overs), Eng – 177/7 (47.2 overs, TT Beaunaut – 44 runs off 81 balls, G Sultana – 3 wkts off 8 overs). England won by 3 wickets (with 16 balls remaining).

Fourth ODI (Truro): Ind – 173/9 (50 overs, Mithali Raj – 58 runs off 111 balls Not Out, A Brindle – 3 wkts off 5 overs), Eng – 177/7 (49 overs, SJ Taylor – 43 runs off 68 balls, N Niranjana – 3 wkts off 10 overs). England won by 3 wickets (with 6 balls remaining).


Fifth ODI (Wormsley): Ind – 152/8 (50 overs, H Kaur – 40 runs off 106 balls, GA Elwis – 3 wkts off 10 overs), Eng – 124/4 (36 overs, LS Greenway – 37 runs off 67 balls Not Out, J Goswami – 1 wkt off 7 overs). England won by 29 runs (D/L Method).
