Verdict: Cheap n Simple
Story: Independents’ Day starts as aliens come to Earth and President Raney (Gauthier) has to be protected, as we wait to see if they are friend or foe. As we see destruction happen the aliens leave a simple message they are here for peace but will take out anything that could be used as a form of attack against them.
When the President witnesses the miracles that the aliens can offer she does learn that the attacks from a group known as First Earth could cause the tension to grow or is that what the aliens actually want?
Independents’ Day is a simple rip off of the good Independence Day because even the Asylum couldn’t find a way to take advantage of the mess that is Resurgence. I will say the slightly twist to the story works really well having the aliens come in as friendly only to find out the truth is shocking and most of all scary. I do think the story doesn’t get overcomplicated which is a big plus because that is why Resurgence becomes complicated.
Actor Review
Fay Gauthier: President Raney has to make the right decision on how the handle the aliens who have come to Earth, with them starting to attack they offer a chance for freedom but are they really all about this? Fay is solid without really excelling here but the truth is no one really stands out.
Sal Landi: General Roundtree is the first person the President turns to whenever needing advice and loyal until the end. Sal is solid enough for the role.
Johnny Rey Diaz: Captain Goddard is another member of the cabinet help the President make all the correct decisions. Johnny much like the rest is solid enough in this role.
Support Cast: Independents’ Day has a small supporting cast which at times gets lightly confusing because all of the ranks involved but otherwise no one stands out too much.
Director Review: Laura Beth Love – Laura does a solid job making an easy to watch Independence Day movie making it the only one worth watching.
Action: Independents’ Day has simple action throughout without being anything special.
Sci-Fi: Independents’ Day puts us into an alien invasion style film which is easy to follow.
Settings: Independents’ Day keeps the settings simple and doesn’t use any stand-out landmarks.
Special Effects: Independents’ Day ha a low budget which means you know the effects are going to be cheap throughout.
Suggestion: Independents’ Day is one you should watch before Resurgence because it is a lot easier to follow. (Watch Instead of Resurgence)
Best Part: Slight spin on the invasion angle.
Worst Part: Certain special effects look very cheap.
