People who come to Crete to stay for an indefinite period of time, not tourists, come here because they’re searching for something. They might be in pursuit of a better way or life, love, enlightenment and inner peace or any combination thereof. For most people, once they’ve settled in on the island, they’re no closer to finding what they came here looking for.
It’s an island. If you don’t bring it here, you won’t find it here.
I moved to Crete from Singapore because I wanted a fresh start and I felt like I needed a change. However, upon my arrival, nothing changed. A year later, apart from location, my life was exactly what it had been a year earlier. Only recently have I begun to grasp the beginnings of the fresh start I was yearning for when I left Singapore.
My conclusion is that you only get what you really want when you’re truly and fully open to receiving it. If you’re not ready, it doesn’t matter where in the world you are.
