Our Tuesday slot in which we point you
in the direction of other great happenings and events in our great city. A new
exhibition, a gig, a museum, a pop-up-shop – the best of London within a few
minutes of a London
Walks walking tour.
Go to The Carnival!
Held each August Bank Holiday since
1966, the Notting Hill Carnival is the largest festival celebration of its kind
in Europe. Every year the streets of West London come alive, with the sounds
and smells of Europe’s biggest street festival. This year the Carnival takes
place on 24th & 25th August.
Three Notting Hill Carnival tips:
• Tube stations are closed to avoid
congestion. Abandon your tube map and don't even think about driving. Shanks'
pony is the order of the day (it's a lovely walk from High Street Kensington
station up Church Street is our tip).
• Sensible shoes! We're very fond of
sensible shoes here at London Walks, but you'll need 'em at Carnival too. Even
if you're not dancing, you'll be on your feet all day. Flatties are essential.
• Plan where to meet your friends.
The crowds are vast and calling on the mobile and saying "I'm standing by
some people in really colourful costumes" just won't work.
A
London Walk costs £9 – £7 concession. To join a London Walk, simply meet your
guide at the designated tube station at the appointed time. Details of all
London Walks can be found at www.walks.com.
