Portal “The Week” recommends tourists who want to spend their Easter holidays away from home three destinations story that still preserves the traditions specific Easter holidays. Whether you choose Leonidio, Seville and Florence, each of the three cities will offer unique cultural experiences.

Leonidio, Greece
Three hours from Athens, Leonidio is one of the most beautiful places where you can see the rich and varied traditions of Easter in Greece. Evening before Easter Sunday, the locals gather in the town square to lift thousands of colorful lanterns to heaven to sing “Christos Anesti” – “Christ is risen”. In the weeks before the event, children receive money after church services every Friday to buy as many lanterns.

Sevilla, Spain
The main focus throughout Spain is on “Semana Santa” – “Holy Week“, which this year runs from April 9 to 15. Thousands of people gather daily processions marching through the streets, singing lyrics about the sufferings of Christ and the Virgin Mary and carrying olive branches in their hands. “The arrival of the Angel” is a tradition of the region. Character dressed in angel role is to take off the black veil covering the face of the Virgin Mary. While these parades vary from region to region, Seville is known as marking region in the best way this holiday.

Florence, Italy

It is an important destination when it comes to Passover. The highlight is Easter Sunday, when organizing “Scoppio del Carro” or “explosion of the cart”. A 500 year old cart filled with fireworks and carried through the streets by soldiers, musicians and men dressed in costumes of the XVth century. When it reaches its final destination, Il Duomo of Florence, Archbishop of Florence ignite fireworks in the form of a dove (symbolizing the Holy Spirit), starting an impressive fireworks show.
