I Randomly Ended Up in a Yacht Full of Port Moresby Expats

If things can't get anymore random, my friend Daniel Berry, from the World Domination Summit, has also arranged for me to sail with some of his friends, to a remote island, near the Port Moresby harbour.

Port Moresby is a city full of expats from different countries. A majority of them appears to be from New Zealand, and Australia, but it's not unusual to see Americans, Europeans, and Taiwanese in the city as well.

Upon boarding the yacht and introducing myself to everyone, I realized something didn't feel quite right. Everyone was friendly, however my gut feeling told me these people were more interested in figuring out where in the totem pole of social status they should place me.

Regardless, I kept an open mind and attempted to make small talk with most of them. However, in the end I couldn't help but feel defeated by the shallow conversations, and their focus on materialistic things.

Being an Odd One Out on the Boat

As welcoming as everyone was, I definitely felt like the odd one out. Our different values make it difficult for me to fit in!

Despite the shallow conversations, one thing I respect about these rich expats is their work ethic. Turns out they work 6 days a week on their business', and when they have time off, they enjoy it fully. Like the way they do on this yacht.

As we sail towards the secluded island, I can't help but admire the scenery. The water was so blue it reminded me of the Caribbean. Why is Papua New Guinea not a popular tourist spot?

This country is gorgeous! And I haven't even explored the mountains or the other islands yet. Despite being near the equator, the weather is quite pleasant. It's not scorching or humid like the many countries nearby.

When are arrived on the island, we were greeted with a big beach party! Port Moresby locals were relaxing to Christmas songs, while enjoying a beer. Everyone was having a good time.

I opted for an afternoon of exploring instead. The beach is a great place to lounge, however, it's not a good place to swim as the sand is littered with debris that can easily cut your feet if you're not careful. As a matter of fact, one of Daniel's friend stepped on a starfish and injured himself.

After having my fill of exploration and picture taking, we went back to the yacht to have a late afternoon meal consisting of seafood.

Sailing on a yacht was a neat experience, but quite honestly, I would have enjoyed it more if I went with my friends or family. Sometimes, paradise just isn't as fun if you don't go with the right people!
