I Hate Halo Engagement Rings

By Raymondleejewelers @raymondleejwlrs

Some exasperated souls – 4, precisely – found my blog because they queried “I hate halo engagement rings.” Welcome, ladies (and gents?)

I have to admit immediately that I don’t hate them. But! I understand why some people have a strong aversion. Check it:

Are Halo Engagement Rings Tacky?

Anyway, I get it, I really do. But rather than dwell on the negative, let’s look on the bright, brilliant side, shall we? That’s kinda my thing. And I’ve gathered some goodies that are 100% halo-free and 100% guaranteed to melt your eyeballs off with their gorgeousness. Grab a cup of coffee if it’s before noon, glass of wine if it’s after five, or your favorite flavor La Croix for those grueling hours between. Let’s go.

Just ignore that monstrosity of a beautiful Asscher cut. The three stone style ring is a great alternative to the halo and the equally lovely classic solitaire.

You’ll never hear me argue against a solitaire. I love them! And with huge graduated diamonds on the band and Tacori’s stunning profile? I’m all in.

Here are a few more examples of three stone engagement rings. The top two are my favorite because the side stones look like they’re half the size of the center stone (which is how my own engagement ring is styled.) But that big, juicy pear is breathtaking and the smaller trillion side stones are meant to be accents rather than side stones.

Think all contemporary engagement rings are halos? Think again! This beautiful rose gold solitaire by A. Jaffe is one of the most requested designers settings at DBRL, no halo in site. I LOOOOVE this ring with a cushion cut, but the round brilliant is obviously gorgeous too.

Gabriel & Co. loves them some halos but they also craft stunners like this one, nary a halo in sight. I love this pairing with its twin wedding band for a modern traditional look.

I think I featured this Tuesday but it’s worth a re-visit. The biggest argument I see against halos is the tacky factor. When you have a diamond large enough to warrant its own zip code, adding a halo would be a bit like hanging a hat on a hat. So to avoid the halo but still drive home the fact that Croesus envies your rings, pair your rock with a very large eternity band in the same shape. This cushion cut band is striking because it’s enormous(obviously) but also because you don’t see cushion cut eternity bands every day!

This Simon G. set is bold & sleek at once with its clean lines and unapologetic non-halo-ness.

All of our designers, with the exception of Henri Daussi, have gorgeous, non-halo engagement ring options. If you hate halo engagement rings, fear not – modern designers are still making gorgeous alternatives!
