I Gave up Carbs and I Survived It

This is a “keeping it real” kind of post, I thought it might be nice to delve into something different every now and then.

The Mr and I have been altering our eating habits over the past couple of years in an effort to be healthier, eat better and not gain excess pounds [ie. lose weight - but I really hate that phrase ~ I just want to make sure I fit into my clothes!].

We gave up “sugar” a couple of years back and are pretty well on that train, full steam ahead. Now we have carbs in our sights.

We’re not fanatical when it comes to our food choices but within our own control, we watch we eat.

So the past couple of weeks we’ve cut down on bread, rice, pasta, crackers and the like.

This was no mean feat for me ~ and truth be told I don’t know what it was that fateful weekend when I decided “that’s it, no more toast for breakfast”.

I love bread. I love pasta. And for a long time I thought that was the only way to satiate my appetite.

But a couple of weeks in, it’s not as tough as I thought. Lots of salads, protein choices, nuts and cheese are getting me through the day.

But breakfast, breakfast is tough.

This was my breakfast today. Chia pudding with raspberries and a drizzle of rice malt syrup. I’ve long been intrigued by this concoction ~ gotta love Pinterest for times like these  ~ and finally gave it a try.

I love this idea because it’s a prepare the night before, eat in the morning kind of meal. It needs a few tweaks for my liking but I’m feeling full and prepared to give it a go again tomorrow.

Plus chia seeds are full of all kinds of nutrients.

Hey, tomorrow I might even convince the Mr to give it a go!

Got a favorite breakfast idea?
