Drawnimal  is an app for the iPhone or iPad. This app is essentially an alphabet game in which each letter pulls up an associated animal – “A” is for alligator, “B” is for bear and “C” is for cat.

But with this app you can expand the boundaries and by placing the iPhone on a blank piece of paper, you can draw a shape and add a long tail to the cat’s face.

By mixing media, a child can learn to draw and think outside the box. This app inspires a child  to think about what needs to be added to make the picture complete. The child determines what is complete and the drawing on the paper can be a couple of lines or a detailed colourful sketch.

Going beyond the boundaries is a way to solve problems and to break through assumptions about what the solution should look like.  The classic problem where you nine dots are arranged and you should link all the dots using only four straight lines without lifting the pencil from the paper.

To solve this problem you need to think outside the boundaries and draw the lines outside the box with the dots. The idea behind creative thinking is to break pattern and to form and discover new patterns. This app for the iPad is a great tool to help children push the boundaries something that may be useful when she faces other frames or boundaries.
