HTC and Valve Team Up to Build “RE Vive” Virtual Reality Headset

Facebook owned Oculus Rift is about meet a worthy opponent from none other than the creators of Steam and Half Life. HTC the Taiwanese smartphone maker has teamed up with Valve to make an awesome virtual reality headset called HTC RE Vive.

“HTC’s Vive headset, powered by SteamVR, pulls those virtual worlds off your computer screen and into your home. You’ll experience sights and sounds vivid and lifelike enough to transport you to another place, another time—whole new realities with limitless possibilities.”

Powered by Valve’s SteamVR, the HTC Vive will feature 1,200 by 1,080 pixel screen for each eye with 90 frames per second aspect ratio. The device will also house a gyrosensor, accelerometer, and laser position sensor to accurately track your movements, allowing you to explore the virtual environments more freely.

According to Ars Technica, a developer edition of the headset will head out as early as this Spring with a Consumer Edition set for “end of 2015″ release.
