It has been FOREVER since my last post... Sorry about that! This week has been so busy for me! I hope 2012 is bringing you lots of productivity as well! We've already covered how to transition your closet from winter to spring for all the ladies out there, now it's time to help all you guys out!
How to Transition Your Closet from Winter to Spring: The Guy's Guide
Here's what you're going to need:
A solid cashmere scarfA comfortable plaid or printed shirt A medium weight coat or jacket A great fitting pair of jeansA classic brown beltA nice pair of sturdy boots
Like I've mentioned before, the weather can be pretty unpredictable during this time of the year, so it's always difficult to be prepared. One of my favorite things that I think guys don't wear enough is a great scarf. I know, it seems really intimidating and you don't think you can pull it off, but you can. I promise. Make sure to buy your first one in a neutral color, no pattern, nothing. Simple is always key when you're trying something new.
Next, find your favorite casual button down... and wear it! Being comfortable is always important and you want to make sure you feel good in the clothes you're wearing. Some of my favorites are made by John Varvatos, Billy Reid, Vince, and NSF.
You're also going to need some sort of jacket. Medium weight would be preferred because obviously the temperature is so up and down that you don't want to be burning up some days, and freezing the others. I really like Filson for jackets because they've been in the business for so long and know what they're doing. Plus, they're not a high fashion brand, so their style is timeless and their pieces prove to be staples in your wardrobe for years.
Now on to jeans! I know for some of you this is such a daunting task, so I've broken down some of my favorite fits for you here in my Men's Denim Fit Guide. I've featured the AG Protege because I think they're a great classic fit jean for most men out there. If you're just starting to build your wardrobe, stick with a classic pair such as above. No holes, minimal distressing, and in a great deep indigo color. They will last you longer and help you transition between seasons and from day to night looks.
A classic brown belt is such a must. I never used to be adamant about needing one, but boy was I wrong! Forgetting to wear a belt is like forgetting to put a bow on a present, it just looks a little "off". Brands like Fossil, Will Leathers, and Lucky Brand are classics and durable, which is always important.
Last but certainly not least, a sturdy pair of boots. Some of you down here in Texas may chose to substitute the above pair for your cowboy boots and that is perfectly OK. I really really really LOVE these Alden Indy Boots though. The pictures just don't do them justice. They're so handsome in person. The best part about them is that they look better with age. Just like denim, you wear them in and make them yours. No two pairs will look exactly alike after a few months. They also look fantastic with jeans and can easily be worn with a blazer for a night out. They are a little pricey, but I promise you, they will be in your closet forever. Trust me, your feet will thank you.
