How to set personal goals

Why Set Goals?

Setting goals gives you long-term vision and short-term motivation. It helps you to organize your time and your resources so that you can make the most out of your life.

Step #1: Setting Lifetime Goals

First consider what you want to achieve in your lifetime. Setting lifetime goals gives you the overall perspective that will shape your decision-making.

Step #2: Setting Smaller Goals

Set a five-year plan of smaller goals that you need to complete if you want to reach your lifetime plan. Then create a one year plan, six month plan, and a one month plan of smaller goals that you want to achieve. Create a daily to-do list of things you should do today to work towards your lifetime goals. The last step is to review your plans and make sure this is the life you really want to live.

Step #3: Staying On Track

Once you have decided on your first set of goals, keep the process going by reviewing and updating your to-do list on a daily basis. Over time be sure to review the longer term plans and modify them to reflect your changing priorities.

More Tips For Setting Your Goals:

  • State each goal as a positive statement
  • Be precise
  • Set priorities
  • Write goals down
  • Keep operational goals smaller
  • Set performance goals not outcome goals
  • Set realistic goals

I hope these tips are helpful.
