How to Save Money on Children’s Clothing

By Therealsupermum @TheRealSupermum

Children’s clothes are one of the largest expenditures in a parent’s budget, because children grow out of clothes so quickly.  Young children are also tough on shoes and other types of clothing, since children are more active than their adult counterparts.  Even though the clothes use less material than the clothes used for adults, they are often not any less expensive. A wise parent needs to find ways to cut down on his costs. Keep reading for some wonderful tips on how to do so!

How to Save Money on Children’s Clothing

1. Thrift Stores
Thrift stores are a great way to find used children’s clothes. A person who has become used to only buying new clothes may find this idea somewhat troublesome, but financial realities may cause someone to find thrift stores more attractive than in the past. A consumer may overcome his objections though, especially after he finds out that kids know how to be incredibly hard on pants and shirts. It is always better to buy socks and underwear new.. Read on for more info on that…

2. Socks and Underwear
Children’s socks and underwear do not last any longer than the rest of their clothing. The difference between socks and underwear and other clothing is that socks and underwear can carry a number of germs and diseases. Stores do not accept returns on these two articles for this reason. Saving money on these items requires a different strategy, including coupons, waiting for sales, and just playing store policies off against each other.  Almost every brick and mortar store in existence has a price-matching policy. Price-matching lets a store equal or match another store’s prices. So, you can essentially always get the best price at whichver store is closest to your home.

3. Bonus
Ebay and other auction sites often sell items in lots. The lots are created by people who have multiple items they want to sell. When a person buys a lot of clothing, he may get items he does not need or want. He can sell the items he does not need to someone else or he can donate the items to charity.

Each family will develop its own strategy for saving money on clothes, but keep in mind that as a rule of thumb, it is best to save major expenditures for holidays and birthdays. Also, remember that the strategies spelled out here are not extensive. People can find many other ways to save money on clothes for all of the members of their family, with a little creativity and confidence.
