Family holidays are always special, but seeing your kids make their first few turns on skis or watching them fly down a toboggan run with massive smiles on their faces are memories you’ll never forget.

Choosing a Family Friendly Resort

Some ski resorts are more suited to families than others due to their proximity to the airport, childcare facilities, dedicated kiddie ski areas, excellent ski schools and accommodation close to the slopes. So when you’re looking for a place for the whole family to stay, it’s a great idea to be aware of these factors and keep them in mind when researching which resort and hotel will be best suited your needs.

Family Hotels

Your choice of accommodation is really important. As a family you’ll be wanting larger or interconnecting rooms, areas for the kids to run around and play, early meal times and maybe some childcare. Most hotels will detail in the description whether they offer interconnecting rooms and childcare. But if anything you need isn’t mentioned then just get in contact with them before you book to see whether they can facilitate you. There’s no point in turning up to a hotel and not having what you need when you get back from a long day on the slopes!

Shorter Transfers = Happier Children

Trying to keep the kids entertained on a long transfer after an early flight can be tricky, so choosing a resort that’s closer to the airport can help keep them from getting tired and irritable.

Family Savings & Free Places

As with resorts, some properties are more family orientated and not only offer great facilities like pools, kids’ clubs and playrooms, but some hefty discounts for children too. Keep an eye out for any deals like this to help make your holiday that little bit cheaper.

Ski Essentials Offers

Anything thing you might find is many resorts offer substantial deals for families pre-booking lift passes, equipment and tuition. Children under a certain age are often free and there’s plenty of incentives available such as free child equipment when two adults pre-book equipment or tuition. All of this adds up to those extra savings so see what you can prebook before you go and if it will save you any money. Better to be prepared than caught short with a huge cost when you get there!

And finally don’t forget to kit the family out with all the latest gear to stay toasty on the slopes! What are your top tips for planning your family ski holiday?
