How to Plan for the End of Your Life

By Yourtribute @yourtribute

Making plans for the end of your own life and your funeral is a chore that is easily postponed. But, as the years go by and perhaps increasing physical illnesses make it more and more difficult to forget about the inevitable, it feels more and more acceptable and in many cases, even desirable to make plans. Nobody likes the idea of passing away to leave those closest to them with a financial, stressful burden, that is why many individuals are turning to funeral planning before they pass away in order to ensure that the whole process is as easy as possible for their close family members and friends.

Being Prepared

For the large majority of us, death will not be a sudden occurrence but rather something that is a lengthy process. One of the effects of modern medicine is that it has greatly extended the dying process, with diseases that would have lasted months or even weeks now being able to be controlled and treated to the extent that they last for double or even triple that amount of time. Because of this, it’s become easier to plan the end of your life and for your funeral, as many people, sadly, discover that they are dying years before the expected time. This gives them time to consider how they would like their life to end and what care they would like to receive in their final moments. You can also choose how your body will be cared for after death, and make arrangements for your funeral plan.

Talking About Death

When planning a funeral for yourself, it’s necessary to talk about death with your closest family and friends. However, death can be quite a taboo subject – people don’t like to talk about, or even think about, what will happen when somebody who is close to them passes away. However reluctant you may be to discuss this subject with others and run the risk of upsetting them, it’s essential to try to talk with them as if you want them to be advocates, they will need to be actively involved. Talking about your death is likely to upset those who you speak to about it, and it may well upset you, too. In order to keep upset to a minimum during already difficult times, you might want to use an end-of-life planning service so that you can specify what you would like and leave it with your will or give it to your family members who will be involved in your funeral plans.

Beyond the Funeral

Putting together plans for the end of your life goes beyond simply making plans for the funeral. To ensure that everything is in order for when you pass, you will need to do some paperwork. One of the most important things to plan is your will, as this will determine what happens to your estate once you are gone. Unless you are planning to cover funeral costs with your own money, you will also need to ensure that you have a life insurance plan together to pay for it.

Planning for the end of your life is never a nice experience, but you will feel relieved knowing that those closest to you have everything covered when the time comes.
