Starting a blog is one of the best things that I’ve done in the last five years. In my first year of blogging I earned more than $20,000 from A Travellers Journey and I learnt a lot. I learnt how to run a website (really simple), basic programming (incredibly difficult), work with advertisers (easy once you know how) and a lot more besides. Today I want to share some of the things that I’ve learnt and tell you a bit about my journey…

A Travellers Journey was my springboard into the world of online commerce. It’s not my only site (I run a number of different travel sites). Still the travel niche doesn’t really interest me at the moment and over the last six months I have started to branch out in different directions. One of the big things I’ve been focusing on is software development and affiliate marketing. This has been another steep learning curve and I’m weeks away from launching my first premium WordPress plugin (I’ll share it with you once it launches).
What can you learn from my journey?
To anyone who has followed this blog, this might sound like a new direction for me, but it’s actually a continuation. I’ll be honest, the reason I started blogging was because I wanted to work online. I knew from experience that blogging is profitable and it seemed a lot easier (with zero knowledge of running a website) than directly launching an online business.
Looking back, I’ve decided that in a lot of ways blogging is one of the easiest ways to start out making money online. It gives you the space to learn about how to run a website without needing to focus on affiliate marketing or product development. The truth is though that it’s not as profitable as actually running a business and this is why I’m making the changeover.
Why I’m Focusing on Software
To give you a good example, my friend started a software company the same month I started blogging. His company has cleared seven-figures in sales, I’ve made less than six. You can understand why I want to make the change, but here’s the thing… My friend spent six years developing websites, working in affiliate marketing and learning about software development before he launched his company. He needed that time to grow and learn about how to make money online and manage a business before he could successfully launch a business. In the same way, I have needed that time and space to learn and grow.
So I Want to Share My Knowledge
I know there are a lot of people who were in the same position that I was in two years ago. There are people like me who are searching for a change of direction. Blogging could be that opportunity that lets you earn money while learning about how to work online. If this is you, then I want to help.
