A grandson was talking to his grandmother and asked her many questions. She replied to them all saying; ‘Well, let me think a moment. Do you know that I was born before television, penicillin, polio shots, frozen foods, contact lenses and the contraceptive pills were invented?’

There were no credit cards, laser beams or mechanical pencils.Man had not invented air conditioners, dishwashers or clothes dryers. Clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air and space travel was something found only in comic books.

Your grandfather and I got married first … and then lived together.Every family had a father and a mother.

It was before gay rights, computer dating, dual careers and group therapy.

Our lives were governed by common sense.

We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up and take responsibility for our actions.

Serving our country was a privilege and living in our country was a bigger privilege.

I thought that fast food was eating half a biscuit while running to catch the school bus.

Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins.

Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and weekends.

I never heard of a tape deck, an electronic typewriter, yoghurt or guys wearing earrings.

If we saw anything marked made in Japan, my dad said it was junk.

The term ‘making out’ meant how well you did on your school exams.

Pizza Hut, McDonald’s and instant coffee were unheard of.

Ice creams, phone calls, bus rides and pepsi all cost 5 cents.

You could buy a new car for $600 but few people could afford one. Too bad, because gas only cost 11 cents a gallon.

In my day, grass was something you mowed. coke was a cold drink. Pot was something people cooked in, aides were helpers in the principal’s office hardware was found in a hardware store and software had not yet been invented. We were the last generation to believe that a woman needed a husband in order to have a baby.

People call us OLD and CONFUSED and they talk about the huge generation gap.

Well, tell me how old you think this woman is? I bet you think that she is ancient, huh? Well, you are in for a shock. It’s quite scary if you think about it and sad at the same time. THIS WOMAN IS ONLY 69 YEARS OLD.
