The San Francisco Symphony will not come to New York this week.The musicians struck last Wednesday, following a month-long dispute regarding player salaries, pension funds, and the projected renovation of their home venue Davies Hall.
Today, Superconductor received an e-mail from the Carnegie Hall press office, announcing that the performances on March 20 and 21 are cancelled. The orchestra was planning on playing a Wednesday night concert featuring Brahms' Symphony No. 1 and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with soloist Yuja Wang.
Thursday night's concert would have featured Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 9. Both concerts were to be conducted by SFS music director Michael Tilson Thomas.
The concerts will not be rescheduled. Patrons who purchased tickets for these performances with a credit card will receive automatic refunds. Those who purchased tickets with cash can return them to the Carnegie Hall Box Office to receive their refund. Ticketholders with any questions should contact CarnegieCharge at 212-247-7800.
