How Messi Messed Up

By Cathyrin @CatherineBaleda
Frequently cited as the world's best contemporary player, Leo Messi had done a violation last Jan 22 just because he wanted to greet his mom a “happy birthday” through his sports apparel after winning 3-0  over Racing Santander. He pulled up his shirt to reveal a message scrawled across his undershirt. It wished his mom a happy birthday for all the cameras to see.

Yet, the federation's disciplinary committee punished Messi under their article 91.1 for goal celebrations, which carries a fine of between 2000 and 3000 euros, and awarded him a yellow card.
Article 91.1 for goal celebrations"Any soccer player who, celebrating a goal, or by another cause related to the match lifts his shirt to display any publicity, quote, legend, acronym, drawing or art, will be sanctioned, and fined with a sum between 2.000 and 3.000 Euros (between USD $2,736 and USD $4,105)."
Whew! This is definitely a very strict rule. After all, it’s not bad to greet the woman who had carried you for nine months and had taken care of you on her birthday. And using your sports apparel after winning is not a bad idea. That is a gesture of sweetness and love for a mother from his son. And just because of that rigid and uncompromising code, Messi messed up.  And you know what? Sometimes, I have this feeling that rules and laws just let us know how vain our life is. Oh, just the vanity of life, eh.
