How I Switch Up My Pixie Cut

How I Switch Up My Pixie Cut

I was on vacation about a month ago and my friend (with a serious face) asks me how I'm wearing my hair that night. The question was in no way offensive, but for girls with pixie cuts it's pretty comical. Half the reason we love our pixie cuts is the fact that the style is essentially the same everyday. We wake up run our fingers through it a little and dab on some serum for shine. There's not much to it, but I feel like that's sort of the point.

Admittedly, this is why I have a love/hate relationship with this length. When my hair is even chin length I find ways to continually change it up. There's only so many ways you can change up your hair when it is less than an inch long.

Alas, I have found a go-to style for when I feel like giving my hair a bit of volume and dare I say...excitement? It's a tousled wavy look that I quite honestly make up as I go along. It will look like it was hard to do when in reality it's ridiculously easy.

To achieve this style I use my Irresistible Me Diamond Hair Styler. I have actually used this flat iron at every hair length, but I must admit I was most impressed with how well it molds my pixie. All flat irons are not created equal when it comes to super short hair.

The Diamond Hair Styler heats up in under a minute and while it can go up to 450 degrees, I find that it tames my naturally curly/frizzy mane when it I have it between 300 and 350 degrees. No matter what my style intentions are, I am able to do it with a single wipe. What does this all mean? No heat damage. Which for a girl with very little hair to lose is an absolute must.

To start styling my wavy look I clip up all of the hair in my crown (I leave the sides as is). From front to back I pull out one inch sections and curl them each in different direction alternating between curling towards the front and curling towards the back. For the very last section in the back I curl all of my hair towards the front.

I allow the curls to cool (5 - 10 minutes) and then add a dime sized amount of Garnier Fructis Haircare Sleek & Shine Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment to my hair. As I am running my fingers the curls I mold them so that they form a nice a S wave pattern. It is important to be gentle while doing this being it could lead to loosening the curls too much if you are too aggressive.

This style usually lasts 2 - 3 days without touch ups (because the Irresistible Me flat iron is that good). I do not add hair spray to hold the style because I like for my hair to feel touchable, but if you're heading out on a humid or rainy day it may be a good idea to spritz some on just in case. Happy styling fellow pixie chicks!
