How Do You Say Grandparents in Your Native Language?

Posted on the 25 April 2015 by Calvinthedog

Well, in English, we used say grandpa and grandma. One side of the family, we called grandma nana. For some crazy reason, we called her Blue Nana. I think we kids started calling her that perhaps because she always seemed to wear blue. Incredibly, we still kept calling her Blue Nana far into adulthood until the time of her death. We might have called her this to distinguish her from the other grandma.

Here are some terms in other languages:

Mandarin: grandmother – nainai

Tagalog: grandmother – lola

Greek: grandfather: papoo

Those are the only ones I know. Carry on, folks. Also if you refer to your grandparents by different terms than mine, tell us what those are.
