How and Where to Celebrate the Season of Haleem at Kolkata

Posted on the 18 June 2016 by Abhirup Lahiri @tweetabhirup

I miss those days at Hyderabad for a good reason, well it has to be for Haleem as the Ramadan month is back. Being an extremely foodie, how can I miss a mouth watering mutton Haleem(it's my favorite among all Haleem preparations), it's a sooo... delicious.
So as I was craving for a plate of Haleem this season I left with no option but to hunt for a good restaurant that serves the Islamic dish. After researching over the hotels at Kolkata along some consultation with my Muslim friends. I came down to two of them, which I will be glad to share with my readers here in this post. How and where to celebrate the season of Haleem at Kolkata

1. Ramadan Special Haleem at India Restaurant:

Although I am not regular at this place but having recommended by a Muslim friend whom I trust about food and so I tried this place which now I consider worth listening. Among other delicacies which the restaurant is known for, mutton Haleem is one of them especially at Ramadan season(please note this is the only season, this dish is served all across the nation known for). The taste to me is standard, and among those I interviewed(mostly Muslims) considered as a hard-earned reward after a long day fasting. So according to my sources, the mutton haleem is available in between 2pm. to 6pm. It's my advice not to risk at other time considering the demand it will hardly last, so it's always a preference to first comers. The cost for a pair (2Dishes) is Rs 600 approximately.
Below I have also mentioned the available address:
India Restaurant
34-Karl Marx Sarani,
Kidderpore,
Kolkata-23 (besides fancy market)

2. Irresistible Shahi Haleem at Zeeshan:

As in my earlier point I got to find a perfect mutton Haleem at the other restaurant, but at Zeeshan the next week  I got the variety e.i., mutton as well as chicken Haleem, so I preferred chicken as an alternative choice. For those who prefer chicken over mutton dishes will find this place appropriate. The price is also to me fairly reasonable. As the season of Ramadan is all about spreading love and getting together with family, chicken Haleem can be the perfect reason at Zeeshan to come close with family or friends at one table. As I have tasted at Zeeshan, Garia I would suggest you to be there at least once. It is always safe to enquire at 033-32025230 (Zeeshan-Garia branch) for availability(keeping in mind the peak season(Ramadan) especially at evening)
Before I sign off from this post I want to add a fact of value worth considering, Haleem to me is not just a treat because of it's taste, I find this dish is full of high protein, fiber and of course carbohydrate content, if you ever get a chance to visit the backyard, you will find the dish is cooked in wooden-fired cauldron, which is also a very organic way of preparing. So you have every reason to taste if you haven't till date.
I hope you won't forget to leave your experience(feedback) in the comment box below after you visit one of the above-mentioned restaurants I have suggested.
